Rhinoplasty (nose-job or nasal reshaping) is a common wish, yet noses are not created the same.Your nose should match your face. Frontal and profile view too.
We strive for symmetry of the nose, from top to bottom and side-to-side. As such, the bone, cartilage and skin should be in alignment. We often find need to improve chin/mentum/neck projection also with nasal reduction. As we look at the nose, multiple options for change are possible such as:
Hump reduction
Tip narrowing
Tip rotation
Straightening
We will shorten the nose where necessary, narrow the bridge and rotate the nasal tip. Especially the tip, which may be large and wide, and contain very thick skin.
In order to reshape wide and asymmetric nasal tips, an open rhinoplasty may be necessary. This requires a small incision on the columella which is barely visible. This small incision allows the surgeon a better view of the tip and control of the alar cartilage.
In addition, if the airway is not straight a septoplasty may be warranted. This may be billable to insurance if pre-approved. Often the nose is crooked, as well as the nasal septum. Both are straightened at the same time.
